Film

OUT ON DVD

Think a movie about a squawking frog who lived back in the days of black and white sounds dull?
I did (a bit). But I was wrong. Free of the suffocating constraints of Hollywood values (believe me, Angelina Joely and/or Brad Pitt would not have been right for this story) those cheese eating surrender monkeys have come up with a desperately moving and completely absorbing account of Edith Piaf's tragic but triumphant life.

Soundtrack: unbvelieveably good
Direction & that kinda arty stuff: top bloody notch

rotten tomatoes only gives it 75% - but what do they know eh?

The Wrestler

Out on DVD at the moment is Mickey Rourke in The Wrestler.

If you haven't seen it yet (and you like movies) then you are missing something.

The story unfolds in an unspectacular manner, just quietly gathering it's own pace and drawing you in. As the final scene fades to black and the credits roll you are left with a feeling that you can't quite identify. And then you realise that it is loss, the kind of loss you normally only feel when interacting with real people, not projected images. How can a movie do that?

I'm going to watch it again and see if that feeling is repeatable.

***** (That's 5 Transmitter Stars)
