I can't believe I've loved vintage scarves for so long and yet have only just discovered this totally fabulous way of wearing them. And before it begins to sound like I personally play any talented part in this life-changing discovery, let me admit that I don't. It's completely due to the fantastic scarf workshop currently happening at London's lovely Liberty store. There's still time for you to experience it for yourself too, just pop down to the shop before 18 October where a team of charming and friendly young women will not only demonstrate to you personally the myriad ways of wearing, using or tying a headsquare, they will even allow you to sit down at specially arranged seats with a mirror in front of you and let you have a play with some gorgeous Hermes scarves - a joy to look at and a joy to touch. Go on, make a special trip and go, it's brilliant. My new favourite way to wear a 70's Crinkle Scarf involves a scarf ring. Liberty sell beautiful silver & gold ones, but any simple ring will just about do. At Vintagehart we love these scarves, and fully endorse the air hostess side-knot or side-bow style of wearing them. But if you're looking for something a bit more glamorous this is what you do (it works really well with the combination of a colourful scarf worn against a plain, simple & unfussy top, but in the picture you'll see how it adds new life to a plain scarf too):
Step 1 : place the crinkle scarf round your neck, with the two ends the same length in front.
Step 2 : about halfway between your neck and the ends of the scarf, take hold of one edge of each of these lengths and pinch them together between your fingers.
Step 3 : pull both edges simultaneously through your chosen ring so that the scarf gathers up towards your neck.
Step 4 : you will see that a lovely sculpted shape now appears, giving a glorious full flounce with the vague shape of a bow above the two remaining pointy ends of the scarf.
It's like magic, isn't it?
